A Look Back at the First Two Months of Sports Fan 4

We recently passed the two month anniversary of Sports Fan 4. It’s been a great ride so far and I know Josh loves all the comments and tweets all of you write here and send his way. I only blog here occasionally but read all of Josh’s posts and think he’s really developed very well [...]

Brady's Bunch Getting Excited

Brady's Bunch Getting Excited

This past week something happened that stopped me in my tracks when I heard it.  It was news so amazing and outstanding that I had to double check to make sure that it was not a joke from the Onion Sports Network.  It in fact was true, our very own “Golden Boy” was back on [...]

NHL Tweaks Rules

Though the NHL is still in the playoffs, that didn’t stop the league from introducing a few tweaks to the NHL rules to be introduced next year. The rules will increase scoring and add even more excitement to the game. Some of the rules include expanding the goal, adding a three point line, and making [...]

Blockbuster Fantasy Baseball Week

Over the past two weeks there were a few adjustments made to my fantasy baseball team due to injuries, suspension and flat out necessity.  I even added an extra pitcher to my rotation leaving myself with only one batter on my bench. The dynamic of starting pitching being the deciding factor for winning at fantasy baseball has [...]

Boston Red Sox Player Profile: Jeff Bailey

Boston Red Sox Player Profile: Jeff Bailey

Jeff Bailey was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the second round of the 1997 MLB Draft. Jeff began his Boston Red Sox career in 2004 joining the Double-A Portland Seadogs. In 2004 and 2005 Bailey bounced back and forth between the Seadogs and the Boston Red Sox Triple-A club in Pawtucket. Bailey stayed with [...]

Did Steroids Make Baseball Better?

Did Steroids Make Baseball Better?

To follow up our recent posts about How to Spot Steroid Users and Manny Ramirez using Performance Enhancing Drugs, I wanted to ask everyone, did steroids make baseball better? Remember, baseball was coming off a strike and we all fell back in love with it because of all the dingers being hit and records being [...]

How to Spot Steroid Users

How to Spot Steroid Users

After Manny Ramirez received a 50 game suspension for the use of performance enhancing drugs and the talk of the “steroid era” and “cleaning up baseball” have all been the topic during games and news, it’s time to fill you in on some of the tell tale signs that a player is juicing (either using [...]

Five Life Lessons From "He Hate Me"

Five Life Lessons From "He Hate Me"

Remember the XFL? That professional football league that WWF WWE owner, Vince McMahon, started back in 2001? No? Well, I don’t blame you, the XFL only lasted one season as it was mostly a gimmick with football as the side show. It would have been great if the quality of play improved enough to become [...]

Boston Red Sox Player Profile: Nick Green

Boston Red Sox Player Profile: Nick Green

The Boston Red Sox have been splitting time at shortstop between Nick Green and Julio Lugo since the season ending wrist injury to Jed Lowrie. Nick Green has been a great offensive replacement in the lineup but struggled defensively in the infield. At the plate in 29 games this season, Nick Green is batting .302 [...]

Celtics Go Down Hard

Celtics Go Down Hard

The Boston Celtics lost to the Orlando Magic 101-82 last night in game 7 of the 2009 Conference Semifinals of the NBA Playoffs. The Magic led by as many as 20 toward the end of the game, but mainly held the Celtics to a 14 point deficit throughout the game. Boston did bring the game [...]

Four Words for the Orlando Magic

After the Orlando Magic put away the seemingly exhausted Boston Celtics in Game 6, we’re heading back to the Boston Garden for a Game 7 for the 21st time in Celtics history. In the past twenty Game 7′s at the Garden, the Celtics have a record of 17-3. All of this leaves me with just [...]

Did The Jungle Scare the Orlando Magic?

As many of you already know, the Boston Celtics made a thrilling comeback in their Game 5 playoff game against the Orlando Magic to take a 3-2 series lead this past Tuesday. Bloggers and the sports media have had a field day with the collapse by the Magic and the post game conflict between Head [...]

How Bad Do the Bruins Want It

The Boston Bruins are entering Game 7 in the second round of the 2009 NHL Playoffs tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes. Boston has won six of their last seven home Game 7′s. The noise and the inspiring fans at The Garden are going to be a huge factor in tonight’s game. The series between the [...]

Fantasy Baseball Success

I am a champion at fantasy baseball, so to speak. Last week against Rock†own™ (the first place team at the time), I won 9-0-1! As I stated in my previous article, I used my theory of stacking up my fantasy baseball pitching as opposed to having five players on the bench (much like my opponent) [...]

Mother's Day Marathon

On Mother’s Day 2009 the Boston Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins all won on the same day for the second time this year to complete the Mother’s Day Sunday Sweep. April 20, 2009, also known as Marathon Monday in Boston, was the first time this was accomplished by all three teams since I can remember. [...]

Red Sox Set Run Scoring Record

Thursday night against the Cleveland Indians the Boston Red Sox scored a record 12 runs in the sixth inning before recording an out. The 12 runs scored were an American League all-time record and the most since the 1883 White Stockings. Seeing the Sox players come up and nail pitch after pitch with some walks [...]

Brett Favre Meeting With Brad Childress, Vikings

Brett Favre Meeting With Brad Childress, Vikings

It’s time to get excited Brett Favre fans. It was announced Wednesday morning that Brett Favre met with Minnesota Viking head coach Brad Childress this week. Favre was given his outright release by the New York Football Jets and is now a free agent. The likelihood that Brett will not return to the NFL now, [...]

Manny Tests Positive For Performance Enhancing Drugs

Manny Ramirez has been suspended for 50 games this season after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs. Manny countered that the positive test result came about from prescribed medicine from a doctor (sounds familiar; what was that, something about your cream Mr. Bonds?). Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me [...]

This Week in Fantasy Baseball

Last week I was well behind my opponent to the tune of 8-1-1 and managed to push through the rest of the week to win the head-to-head series 5-3-2. With an overall record of 17-10-3 I am currently 3 games back of first place and facing the leader this week (Rock†own™ 21-8-1). This weeks matchup [...]

Red Sox Sweep Yankees Again

The Boston Red Sox swept the New York Yankees in the Bronx for this weeks two game series. After a long rain delay leading me to believe game 1 wasn’t going to be played, the Red Sox started the game on top and never lost the lead. Jon Lester got the start in game 1 [...]

The Madden Jinx

The Madden Jinx

Every year video gamers and football fans alike get excited over who will top the cover of this seasons Madden NFL game. For the first time ever, there are two faces that will dawn upon the coveted season ruiner. Troy Polamalu of the defending Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers and Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona [...]

Red Sox Visit New Yankee Stadium

Red Sox Visit New Yankee Stadium

The Sox began the week by ending their 11-game winning streak losing to the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday at the reservation. They also ended up beating Cleveland the following night and were a game out of first place behind the Toronto Blue Jays. I was in high spirits, everyone was playing well, David Ortiz was [...]

NBA Playoffs Round Two Preview

The first round of the NBA playoffs feels like it has lasted for a year, but it’s finally time to move on to the second round. There are some really intriguing matchups that will test some of the stronger teams in both conferences. Without further ado, here are my picks for the second round… Celtics [...]

A Tale of Two Benches

Today’s post is a guest post by Boston Celtics season ticket holder Rich Scaramozza. Rich has been a season ticket holder for a few years, long before Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen walked through that door. Send Sports Fan 4 an e-mail if you’d like to write a guest post. A Tale of Two Benches [...]

Another Overtime in the Celtics, Bulls Series

After the Boston Celtics triple overtime loss to the Chicago Bulls last night, I thought a little inspiration would help going into the weekend for Saturday’s Game 7 at The Garden. This one decides who goes on to face the Orlando Magic in the second round of the 2009 NBA Playoffs.

Bulletins

  1. Boston Bruins Heading to Stanley Cup

The Boston Bruins advance to their first Stanley Cup in 21 years on a Nathan Horton goal that proved the difference in a 1-0 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Bruins will face the Vancouver Canucks for the rights to the Stanley Cup. Game 1 starts at 8PM on June 1st.
  2. It's Official: Umass Moves Up to FBS

It's a move I thought Umass-Amherst should have made a long time ago but better late than never as the Umass Minutemen football team moves up to D1A/FBS. BCS here we come!
  3. Ray Allen for Three Would Be Nice

And so it is. Celtics beat the Knicks 87-85. Ray Allen swished a three to put the C's up tow and send the Knicks in a frenzy to score without any timeouts remaining. C's lead the series 1-0 with Game 2 at the Garden on Tuesday at 7PM.
  4. Cereal For Dinner

@Chrissy_Murray blogs about daily struggles with maintaining a healthy lifestyle, tracking her progress and barriers through her fitness journey at Cereal For Dinner.
  5. 50 Peaks

50 Peaks is an organization seeking to raise money for organizations currently working with youth. 50 Peaks raises their money by climbing the highest mountains in each state.
