As opposed to the run of the mill post I decided to take a trip to the beach with the Sportsfangirl today. We took a trip to Marshfield and met Cooper, our newly married couples dog. The reasoning behind mentioning Cooper is simply because he was great enough to take my mind off the fact that the Red Sox lost to the Texas Rangers yesterday putting them out of the playoff picture for the first time since April.
Rookie pitcher, Junichi Tazawa, who I just picked up for my fantasy team by dropping Daisuke Matsuzaka after the battle within and tweeting with Ian Bethune from Sox & Dawgs. Thanks for helping me make up my mind Ian. Tazawa had a quality start for Boston where he allowed three runs in five innings and looked great, until he came back out for the sixth and couldn't retire a batter. Tazawa can pitch well at the major league level and I'd feel comfortable with him in the rotation going into the postseason with a few more starts under his belt.
The one run loss really shows the dent that Kevin Youkilis' five game suspension put in the line up. With Youk coming back tomorrow I'm sure the team will have a little more pop in the middle of the order to gain back some ground in the Wild Card race.
After hangin' with Mr. Cooper, all of that is meaningless for the day. A new puppy can really ease the tension in a household after the Sox fall back a half game of the Wild Card after being swept in another away series. Boston returns to action tomorrow for a three game series in Toronto before the Yankees come back to Fenway over the weekend giving us a chance to shorten the distance in the AL East.
I can't manage thinking of how important the series against New York could be, so I'm going to get back in the water and spend some more time with Cooper before getting back to the grind tomorrow afternoon. Enjoy the rest of the weekend, and think about getting a puppy of your own by October if necessary.
Cooper won’t be able to take your discomfort away if Tazawa is a starter in the playoffs. Trust me. Deal or No Deal Clay either steps up and takes that third starter role or I’m starting to believe nobody does this year. I like Tazawa’s makeup and I could see him blossoming into a decent pitcher down the road, but to ask or expect anymore out of him is too much too soon. Cool, lighthearted post. Liked it.. Enjoy your days off. Good point about Youkilis.. I was thinking that this morning. They most likely take two of three in Texas with him in the lineup.
I don’t know Chuck, I’d be ok with Tazawa pitching in the post season. More so than Buchholz at this point.
“our newly married couples dog”
Wait…what? You got married? I’m confused.
no we didn’t. Our friends house that we were at, they just got married a few weeks ago. Sorry about the confusion.
