in Baseball, MLB

Dice-K returned to the Red Sox last night and pitched for the first time at the major league level since June 19 when he got shelled by the Atlanta Braves allowing 6 runs in 4 innings. We all know that Dice-K has struggled in every game started this season and the blame has been on the WBC all year. How did our third man in the rotation do last night?

Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched six innings of three hit, shutout baseball against the Los Angeles Angels, allowing three free passes and punching out five batters while earning his second win of the season. While throwing 93 pitches, 52 of them strikes, I wouldn't say that Dice-K is back to the form he was in, in 2007, but I would say that we have now seen that Matsuzaka can get himself back on track. Hopefully there are no more phantom injuries heading into the post season and Daisuke can keep himself off of the DL.

The Wildcard Race

I hope this isn't the jinx that everyone was waiting for, but I haven't posted about the Sox in quite some time. Partly because of work and football season beginning, but also because they went on a nice streak, giving themselves a 5 game lead in the wildcard race over Texas and pulling within seven games of the Yankees for the Divison. I'll leave it at that and hope that we don't take a nose dive, because I'm also going to the game on Thursday night with the sportsfangirl for a nice date.

Thanks to Golden ~Eye~ for the photo of Daisuke Matsuzaka.

Yup, found that out this morning after I got in the car and drove to work. Thanks for giving the update, maybe it’s a good thing that I talked about the Sox.
