Everywhere I looked last week I read; cellar, basement, last and bottom. The Red Sox were in all of those places after dropping two of three to the Angels and Athletics on the west coast.
The Sawx have come back to Fenway Park and opinions are changing. Everyone is saying; comebacks, bullpen pitching and bats coming alive. We're only 10 games into the season! Remember last year, Toronto was going to be a power house and the Red Sox and Yankees weren't going to make the playoffs?
The Red Sox winning streak currently stands at three games. Everyone can stop planning for 2010 thinking that this season is a wash. In no way am I saying I'm not a backseat driver, telling the managers what to do. I'm the first person yelling at my television on what our team needs to do to win. If professional sports were played in my house, I'd be a first round draft pick.
Playing Without Papi?
I read a very intriguing article by Jeff Louderback from soxandpinstripes.com. Jeff makes many great points in his article and I agree with one more than others:
Theo Epstein has shown that he is not afraid to part ways with a popular player during the regular season and in the off-season.
This got me to thinking about the Manny Ramirez trade last season, when his production was down and his attitude stunk. I was crushed when Manny left, heartbroken even. The players that were a part of the 2004 and 2007 World Series Championship teams all have a special place in my heart. I give Kevin Millar an applause for every at bat when the Orioles visit Fenway. The same goes for guys like Trot Nixon, Mark Bellhorn, Doug Mientkiewicz and Orlando Cabrera. Sadly, Johnny Damon gets nothing but four letter words from me.
All of the players that are no longer in Boston hurt us when they left, but we moved on. For everything he's done, it would take seasons to get over a loss like David Ortiz. After all, it's about winning championships not our hearts.
I don't think Ortiz is leaving Boston until his contract is up. This is something I will revisit in a few months. For all you other coaches at home, let us know what you think. For now, enjoy todays game on NESN.
Thanks to mjsawyer for the picture of David Ortiz.
just and FYI on Kevin Millar, he’s on Toronto.
Thanks Matt, I knew he didn’t play for Baltimore but I remember him playing for the O’s at the games I went to over the past few years.
