Spring is my favorite time of the year. Not only is the weather taking a turn for the better (in New England at least, it’s always nice for me in San Diego) but baseball is also starting back up and that is always good news.
Unwavering Passion
Since I've been living in California I have been hard pressed to find anyone as devoted to a sports team as we Bostonians are. As fans we're not particularly more special than the next teams' fans, but it does just seem that Red Sox fans care more about the outcome of the second game of the season than most fans do about a playoff game.
So, when the van packs up the gear from Fort Myers and brings the boys back home to Boston to knock the ball around, I get butterflies. Where I'm currently living devotion to a sports team is a rare sight since the local team is terrible and the fans are extremely fairweather. In Boston we have taken our lumps and stood by the team when they needed us most and that is something that is impressed upon us from birth. We have learned to enjoy the times when they are good and to send never ending support when times are bad. There are always the occasional gripes and complaints along the way because nobody is perfect.
Smooth Transition
When the baseball season kicks off, that is when I am the most excited and I make the adjustment in mindset from football to baseball. It's almost the same as when winter turns to spring. As the season shift the sports climate shifts as well. I'm wicked excited for the 2009 baseball season to get underway and I'm ready for another emotion filled season with the Red Sox.
I’m highly excited for the season too Matt. I’m more excited to go to some games this year! The 1-3 start doesn’t bother me in the long run of things, but I’m pretty upset we’ve been getting it so bad.
I might be a good luck charm. The game I go to breaks their 3 game losing streak.
Whatever it takes to start up a streak. If we have to purchase you a ticket next time we go on a skid we’ll take care of it.
Looks like you might have to take a trip to Oakland.
