Bill Simmons came up with a great idea last week, a twitter account for Celtics fans to get live chant ideas. The first chant idea is simple, relevant and very chanty. During Lebron James' first trip to the free throw line (and following trips), Celtics fans should chant "New York Knicks, New York Knicks".
Lebron James Checks out of Cleveland
Based on Lebron's performance in Game 5 and Coach Calipari's presence, many fans are claiming Lebron has already checked out for this season and is looking ahead to his upcoming free agency this offseason. Even if he hasn't it's tough to think Lebron isn't thinking about the possibilities and a loud "New York Knicks, New York Knicks" chant might just put him over the edge.
New York Knicks: The Celtics 6th Man
Even if Lebron hasn't checked out, his teammates must be wondering where Lebron will end up next year. Having Boston fans chant a team from our uber-rival New York City has to have an effect on either Lebron, his teammates, or hopefully both. Any doubt or slight hesitation only works in the C's favor so to anyone Celtics fans attending Game 6 at the Garden thursday night, get ready to chant for the New York Knickerbockers!
Spike Lee Roots for Boston Celtics
We know it feels awkward for Boston fans to chant for a New York team, but in this scenario it's OK. Even Spike Lee is temporarily putting aside his hatred of Boston teams and is openly rooting for the Celtics to win to encourage Lebron to jump ship to the New York Knicks. Next season, if the Knicks get Lebron James, Boston and New York fans can go back to hating each other but tonight let's unite in a common cause, ousting the Cavaliers from the playoffs and pushing Lebron to New York. Sure, it'll make the Knicks better but it'll also re-ignite a rivalry that's fizzled away over the past few years.
Just like the Red Sox finally winning a World Series pushed the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry to a new level, so would the Knicks signing James.
More Celtics Chant Ideas
Celtics Town joins in the fun and suggests five Celtics Chant ideas for Game 6. Our favorites include "No Ring, No King" and "You Got Rondo'd". What do you think Celtics fans should chant at Game 6 at the Garden?
