According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Michael Vick signed a two year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. The structure of the contract pays $1.6 M for the first year and a team option for a second year at $5.2 M. While the Eagles weren't the team I expected Vick to sign with, I did expect him to sign by the end of the week as Tony Dungy has been reporting to ESPN.
Everyone has their mixed bag of feelings on Michael Vick and his conditional reinstatement, but I honestly feel that the man served his prison sentence and should be allotted his second chance at life as well as in the NFL. I don't really think that the Eagles will benefit from Michael Vick or that he will benefit from Philadelphia, but I am excited to see this all go down.
The Future In Philly
Michael Vick will be able to immediately report to Eagles camp and play in the last two pre-season games according to his reinstatement from Commissioner Goodell. Vick will the be up for review for a full reinstatement by Week 6 of the regular season. I don't see Vick replacing Donovan McNabb, but I can see him making it possible to use the Wildcat or something similar with two quarterbacks on the field at the same time for Philly.
If I haven't expressed my excitement about this enough, I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea. I am excited to see a talent like Michael Vick get back on the field. I do feel that he's served his sentence, done his time and deserves a second chance. I also do feel that he's a d-bag for what he did and isn't really a good human being. But he has all the time in the world to prove people wrong on that.
Chad's Thoughts
Chad OchoCinco also put his thoughts in on this when he tweeted:
@OGOchoCinco Mike Vick and McNabb on the same team, damn!!!!!! Glad I don't play defense, good luck game planning to stop that shh!!
Since they are creating all star teams in professional sports how abouy we just put Lebron and Kobe on the same damn team!
Shaq-Lebron Vick-McNabb that shhh is awesome , i know where I am spending my bye week, I am acting like a groupie, I am going to the game.
I think OchoCinco is jumping the gun a bit with that statement, but I do agree that this is something that teams will be working into their game plans during the week. Chad Johnson could also spend more time worrying about the relationship he has with his quarterback as opposed to what he thinks about Michael Vick and Donovan McNabb. I don't know if T.O. had anything to say about it though.
Thanks to littlerottenrobin for the picture of Michael Vick.
How is Vick like Lebron or Kobe?
Vick never was and never will be a top 5 QB. Heck, McNabb isn’t even a top 5 QB. It’s going to be exciting to see how the McNabb-Vick duo works out, but OchoCinco is definitely way too excited over it.
Vick definitely was a top 5 QB in his second and third year. I’d even go as far to say he was a top 3 QB behind Brady and Manning.
As is no longer the case, obviously. I just found that Chad Johnson’s tweets were hilarious and had to be put out there for everyone.
I have to say this, Manning has wide outs, Brady has wide outs. Vick had nothing, one guy. That’s it. Put him in with a quality wide receiver and see what he would have done in his 2nd or 3rd year. His Arm is unbelievable.
Now, most people say the Wildcat is here and gone. I think not. 85 is almost right, that is scary. Imagine a DEF seeing McNabb (THROW and RUN), Vick (RUN and ThrOW) with Westbrook too. Come on. If those guys can work together, who can stop the run? And if you try, someone will always be on a fly to test those amazing arms of McNabb and Vick.
Vick could throw it 70 yarss before prison (although not with the best accuracy) Imagine what he throws now. Do you think he got fat in prison, or worked out non-stop? I know he didn’t get to throw any footballs, but I don’t expect him to be too out of shape. He needs to get his legs back, and Philly can use him is so many situations.
