The New England Patriots traded for Randy Moss, and soon after, they reacquired Deion Branch from the Seattle Seahawks for a fourth round pick.
Branch is no stranger to Foxborough. He was on the Patriots from 2002-2005, winning two Super Bowls. Needless to say, he was glad to be back, and so were the fans. During his previous time with the Patriots, Branch averaged around 50 yards a game, but only scored a handful of touchdowns each season. He contributed the most on getting the ball down the field.
Now he is back with the Patriots, granted, it has been only for one game, his impact is already being felt. He had 9 catches, for 98 yards & a touchdown in a win against the Baltimore Ravens. On top of that, his press conference did not make headline news, and no rumors flying around the following day.
Well… what did Moss do in 4 games with the Patriots this season? A total of 3 TDs (2 in one game), averaged about 3 catches a game, averaged about 40 yards as well. Plus, based on what has been reported, friction in the locker room, and with management. We will have to see how the rest of the season plays out. If this week’s game has any insight, giving up Moss could end up being a good thing, and getting Branch could be something that will only help this team. Say what you want about draft picks they gave up/gained, this could be better than some random draft pick, considering the crapshoot the NFL draft is.
